NEC 101 Assignment 2::

Mikoh walked into class exactly on time as it struck the hour. She was almost certain she'd be late, not that she cared a lot about punctuality, but this class was the shit. Holy hell, was applying to Otherworlde a good idea. Last month she finally got to communicate with a ghost for the first time. After hearing these guys speak for years in her presence, she finally got to talk back to them. Never had she ever been able to talk back! The expirience was exhilerating, and the new skill was something she really wanted to enhance.
Swiftly, she sat down in the nearest empty seat closest to the door, throwing her book bag down beside her.  “I’m glad to see you are all back,” the effeminate teacher, Mikhaela, greeted the class, smiling. Mikoh haden't gotten the chance to actually talk to the guy yet, but it took her like, weeks to figure out he was in fact not a girl. Good thing she didn't talk to him yet because she's sure she would have called him the wrong pronoun. The dress didn't help. It suited him well, though. He reminded her of Raven from Teen Titans for some reason, probably the hair. Mikoh's mind started to wind out of focus.

"Last class, you all did very well in your séance, I know that being so concentrated for so long was difficult for...some of you.”  Her selective hearing picked up that little bit, snapping her attention back to his speaking. 'Was this little punk calling me out? I'll fight that midget,' Mikoh thought to herself. True, she did have an attention problem, but he probably wasn't singling her out. Aaand she wasn't about to get kicked out of this awesome school for punching a teacher. But anyhow, fuck this sassy dude! She shot him the evil eye until he mentioned the next assignment: solo spirit communication. Mikohs eyes got wide with excitement. The class had to talk to spirits one-on-one to discover things about their future. Yaaas betch, this was the shit she signed up for! She didn't expect to get to talk to spirits this early on, and she wondered what the next 4 years would have in store for her. Total badassery, probably!

Books were passed out to each student, and Mikoh was almost trembling in anticipation. Once handed the book, she quickly opened it and skimmed through a few pages as Mikhaela spoke. “In front of you is a book on how to complete a séance by yourself, a dim room and some focus are really the only two tools you will need. Patience is necessary here, a spirit may be unwilling to tell you some things, but you must treat them with respect else you wish to be cursed.” Patience was basically a foreign word to Mikoh, she wanted to have a seance now! Mikhaela said a few more things to the class before dismissing them to do their assignment. The zombie didn't realize he had done so and sat there skimming the book for another minute. Mikaela walked over to her and tapped her shoulder. "You... may leave now."

Mikoh's eyes shot up, she gave him a wide grin and the OK hand gesture. "You don't gotta tell me twice!" Quickly, she shoved the textbook into her bookbag and stood up to leave, more than ready to perform her assignment.

"But I did just tell you twice..," Michaela spoke innocently, unintentionally triggering the zombie.

"Don't test me, child," She mumbled under her breath. "I mean, ok, see ya later." Rolling her eyes, she finally left the classroom. She ran back to her dorm as quickly as she could, which was pretty fast. She opened her dorm door and didn't even bother turning on the light as it was apparently required to do it in the dark. Ghosts are so typical. She flopped her bookbag on her bed and ripped the book out. She'd already skimmed the important parts, she thought, but she had to get this right. She reread what she could in little light.

Just focus in a dim room. Simple enough. She already knew there was a ghost in her dorm, she heard him occassionally talk to himself. Mikoh sat down in the middle of her dorm, criss cross, and started focusing on connection to the dead. Whispers were heard already. He was here, alright.

Focus. Hmm. Focus... The chaotic whispering of the ghost in her dorm room was very distracting. It's really hard to focus when you hear spirits even before seancing. Being dead, or partially so, gave Mikoh the ability to hear the dead and paranormal beings perfectly. The only issue is she heard them all the time, and could not communicate back. The whispering continued. Mindless whispering, worldess whispering. It progressively made it harder for Mikoh to focus, but she persisted. Focus. Focus.

"AHAHAHAH", The ghost started loudly cackling out of nowhere and made Mikoh jump, falling backwards and breaking concentration.

"DUDE, SHUT UP." Mikoh yelled at the ghost out of frustration. She didn't actually expect him to respond...

"Oh, did I disturb you?" The spirit replied as he became more visible. "I didn't know you were doing anything important. Would you like to hear a joke?"

Mikoh's jaw dropped. It actually worked! "Whoa... you can hear me?" She asked the obvious, in disbelief. "Wow, I fuckin' did it..." she mumbled to herself. The ghost floated closer to her. The figure was of an older man with vaguely human features, yet some things were off. Creepily off. Was it his masive underbite, or pig hooves for hands?

"I asked, would you like to hear a joke?" The ghosts asked again, a little less politely and a lot more british this time. He furrowed his massive brows over his beady eyes.

"Uhh, not really. I'm kind of on a mission. For school, ya know. The one you're haunting?" Mikoh brushed off his question. As her shock disipated, her excitement grew. "Do you know who I am? I have to ask you some questions about my future for class."

The phantom looked her over. "Oh, Mikoh Amaya, is it?"

Mikoh was utterly impressed. "Yeah.. how did you know that? This is so cool!" Mikoh started clapping all giddy. "Tell me stuff! What's my future like?"

"Oh yes! I know you. I know everyone here at the academy. Your vibration are stronger than many, you stand out somewhat." A devilish smile spread across the transparent face of the ghost.

"Ooookay, whatever that means.. so? Tell me something! Will I graduate? Will I become a necromantic connoisseur? Will I find a way to incorperate this skill into some kind of illegal scheme?" An eagar grin was plastered on her features. "C'mon bud, let me in on this knowledge you ghosties got."

"I see many things in your future. Many a good, many a bad." The voice melted into a storytellers inflection. "The future, as you should know, is not entirely set in stone. Some thing are determined by the universe, while some things are determined by chance. Some things, mind you, are even determined by your own actions. By asking about the future, you are asking about the possible end destinations of many a paths. I can tell you things that may happen, but I cannot tell you what will. I can, however, tell you what wont."

Mind. Blown. Mikoh gulped and nodded  her head in understanding.

"I do see a path of you graduating, but that's only one path. The other paths have you dropping out, or dying. Let's just say the odds aren't in your favor."

"Jokes on you, I'm already dead." Mikoh nervously laughed, fearing the worst.

"You know what I'm implying, you are a smart girl. This is grim fun, hmm? And did you say joke? Would you like to hear one?"

"No thanks, I'd uh, like to hear more about my future..." The zombie rubbed the back of her neck. Dying for good was her biggest fear, and the fact it was a confirmed possible outcome was even more frightning.

"You will most likely become a great necromancer. The paths are many here, and overwhelmingly possitive for this. You may run into some demons from your past, this is also very likely. I see you accepting things that have been bothering you for years." The spirit stopped and smirked. "I see that you want to ask me a question about a romance interest. Aella, is it? Of course it is."

Embaressment flowed through Mikoh's body like blood through veins. Yet, she wanted to know. "Yeah... thats her... is she.. erm.. is she into me? Will we have a future?"

"Would you like to hear a joke?" The ghost was persistant with this joke thing. It was getting annoying to Mikoh.

"No, I want to hear about Aella!"

"Would you like to hear a joke?"

"...."

"Would you like to-"

"Ok fine, sure, just one ok, then we need to get back to this future telling." Mikoh cut him off and rolled her eyes.

The ghosts eyes widened unnaturally big, and so did his gross smile of missing teeth and an underbite. He leaned in close to Mikoh, face to face. They would be close to touching if he were tangible. The room was still and more than quiet. The spirit licked his lips, slowly.

"BOO!"

The ghost sounded, then dissapeared. Mikoh looked around frantically, yet he was nowhere to be seen. She stood up and ran around her small dorm, looking and listening for something. "Wait, come back! What about Aella?" The seance was over.

Mikoh gave up and flopped down on her bed next to her bookbag, frustrated and let down. "That wasn't even a fucking joke!"
